Proofreading

A final proofread is the last step in the editing process before your manuscript is published, submitted, or formatted. It ensures your work is polished and error-free—ready for readers.

Proofreading comes after all major edits (developmental and line edits) are complete. At this stage, we’re not rewriting or revising—we’re catching any remaining mistakes that may have slipped through previous rounds.

What’s Included in a Final Proofread?

1. Spelling and Typographical Errors:
We correct any lingering typos, misspellings, or keyboard slips.

2. Grammar and Punctuation:
We fine-tune punctuation, fix grammar issues, and ensure proper sentence mechanics.

3. Formatting Consistency:
We check for consistent chapter headings, spacing, font usage, indentation, and other layout details.

4. Word Usage and Repetition:
We spot minor issues like incorrect word choices or repeated words that may disrupt the flow.

5. Style Guide Alignment (if applicable):
If you’re using a specific style guide (Chicago Manual of Style, AP, etc.), we ensure the manuscript adheres to it.

What You’ll Receive:

  • A clean, marked-up document showing all corrections using Track Changes.

  • Peace of mind knowing your manuscript is publication-ready.

  • A final layer of polish that presents your writing at its most professional.

A final proofread is essential before your book goes to print, is uploaded to a digital platform, or is submitted to agents and publishers. It’s the finishing touch that shows your attention to detail—and respects your readers.
